Monday declared public holiday

eidul-adhaThe Interior Ministry has confirmed Monday, 12 September, 2016 as a public holiday.

A statement signed by the sector minister, Prosper Bani advised all to observe the statutory holiday.

This would enable Muslims celebrate this year’s Eidul-Adha on the Islamic calendar.

The Eidul-Adha also known as the “sacrifice feast” is marked worldwide by Muslims.

The celebration recognise  the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son to God, of which God intervened  through his Angel jibril to inform Ibrahim that his sacrifice has been accepted before the Lord.

The celebration is accompanied with the slaughter of a goat or ram and the meat is then shared out with family, friends (Muslims or non-Muslims), as well as the poor.
